Dancer—Trained and performed extensively as a dancer in solo, duet and group dance/theater stage works in hundreds of productions all over the world, including as a member and co-founder of DANCEVERT contemporary dance company of Cleveland, Ohio, Linda Diamond & Company of New York City, and Ballet Independiente de Mexico of Mexico City. Emphasis on the modern styles of Graham, Taylor and Limon, together with Afro-Latin and Caribbean styles.

 

Choreographer—Choreographed (both individually and in collaboration with Tom Evert of DANCEVERT) many award-winning works, including for the productions of “Millenium,” “Alma de la Tierra,” “Elements” (for the Cleveland Ingenuity Festival), “Truth Naked” and many other chamber works, as well as dances for three Shakespeare plays and the LatinArts Festival’s “Café Teatro” productions by the Cleveland Public Theater.

 

Teacher—Taught dance and movement classes to children, adults and seniors, at schools, universities and other institutions in Ohio, Canada, India, Washington, D.C., Mexico City, Quito, Ecuador and Chile. The dance classes focus on modern and Afro-Latin dance styles. Developed the movement classes over the course of my teaching career to combine elements of dance with other disciplines of the mind and body.


 

 

Highlights

 

  • Developed and taught classes in Conscious Movement, combining awareness of the body, mind and spirit with various dance styles, as well as QiGong, pilates, body alignment and awareness of rhythm, space, time and form.

  • Danced in productions of “The Bakkhai” and “The Dybbuk” by the Great Lakes Theater Festival in Cleveland, under the direction of Gerald Friedman.

  • Served on Cleveland Museum of Art advisory committees for exhibitions of Hispanic artists.

  • Administrative work for the DANCEVERT dance company, including marketing, publicity, preparation of promotional materials and press releases.

  • Studied with Theatre director Juan Carlos Uviedo of Cuba.

  • Taught for diverse Hispanic organizations such as Mi Pueblo, a Summer Camp in Cleveland, Ohio for children adopted from Latin America

  • Taught the advanced students at CEA , the Arts School of TELEVISA in Mexico City. 

  • Toured nationally and internationally with THE TOM EVERT DANCE COMPANY and with DANCEVERT .

 

Education/Training

 

  • Universidad Nacional de Mexico and the Universidad Metropitana in Mexico City. Majored in Psychology.

  • Dance Schools, including dance schools of Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, Carol Rioux, Jose Limon, Paul Taylor, and Louis Falco in NYC.

  • Daily intensive studies with Martha Graham principal dancers Takako Azakawa, Kazuko Hirabayashi, David Hatch Walker and Bertram Ross also in NYC.

  • Classical ballet, contemporary dance, improvisation, and composition with Ballet Nacional de Mexico School of Dance and Ballet Independiente de Mexico School of Dance

  • Classical ballet at the Academy of the Mexico City School

  • Received fellowships for excellence in choreography from the Ohio Arts Council

  • Nominated three times, twice for excellence in dance, by Northern Ohio Live magazine.
